Yesterday i saw a rainbow. I hadn’t seen a rainbow in a long time, and i marveled at its magnificence.
One of the arguments against the scientific method is that science reduces the beauty and wonder of nature to mere numbers and equations, making the world a dull, lifeless place. I think the contrary is true.
Just because we are aware of how some of nature works does not make her phenomena any less spectacular, or awe inspiring, in fact - i find things amazing because i know how they work.
To me, a rainbow is a hundred times more fascinating when i consider seemingly innocent white light incident on a raindrop, refracting and reflecting, then emerging in brilliant colour on the other side. Truly a marvel to behold.
